
Following the airing of the eighth episode of the NieR:Automata Ver1.1a TV anime, the official Twitter account announced the series will be on hiatus starting with episode nine due to impacts on the production schedule with the spread of COVID-19 infections. A return date for the series was not announced at the time of reporting. The series previously went on a hiatus after episode 3, with episode 4 returning to Japanese broadcast and streaming on February 18.

Inspired by the popular RPG series created by Yoko Taro and developed by PlatinumGames, NieR:Automata Ver1.1a is directed by Ryouji Masuyama (BLEND-S), who also serves as the series composer, at A-1 Pictures with character designs and chief animation direction by Jun Nakai (GATE) and music by MONACA (Summer Time Rendering).
